We’re about a year away from one of the most hotly anticipated games in decades – GTA VI. Coming in Q1 2025, GTA VI is set to become the biggest entry to the GTA series yet, although it is still anybody’s guess whether it can outpace the sales of GTA V, which were mostly boosted by the constant craving for people to jump into the world of GTA Online. Understandably, many GTA Online players are craving the next instalment of the game, but are left wondering what will happen to their money in GTA Online.
GTA Online & The Future
At the moment, Rockstar have given absolutely no indication about the GTA Online mode that is to be featured in GTA VI, but since they have made billions from the success GTA Online, and they have been diverting most of their resources to it over the last few years (outside of GTA VI development), you can assume they will follow it up with something bigger and better.
At the same time, they have given no indication about what will happen to the current GTA Online, since many people have worked hard to build up their money in GTA Online, with people spending countless hours per day doing missions and taking income from their business.
At the moment, the assumption is that GTA Online, in its current form, is not going anywhere. If you have cheap GTA accounts right now, you’ll be able to play them for the foreseeable future. In fact, Rockstar has updates planned for GTA Online right the way through to the end of 2024, and have suggested that they will provide support even when GTA VI is out.
We can expect that, eventually, Rockstar will drop support for the current form of GTA Online, but this is likely to be many, many years into the future. They have only recently dropped support for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, after all.
This means that if you play GTA Online now, you should feel confident knowing that the money in GTA Online that you have spent so long earning is unlikely to be disappearing. In fact, there is a good chance that it will end up transferring some into the next version of the game, since Rockstar are known for their love of onboarding people in the easiest way. Onboarded customers tend to spend more money, after all.
What Can We Expect From GTA Online in GTA VI?
At the moment, nobody knows. Expect the map to be bigger than the current form of GTA Online, and expect the vehicles and features to be scaled back a bit. This way, Rockstar will have plenty to release over the coming years. After all, they’ll want to make GTA Online in GTA VI as much of a success as it was in V.
